Will there be any public health & safety guidelines for this event?
UCI and Irvine Barclay Theater will align with the latest state guidance regarding indoor and outdoor events as well as county, city and campus directives. With the end of federal, state and local COVID-19 emergency declarations, and in line with updated guidance from public health agencies, UCI is revising its COVID-19 protocols.Executive directives
All COVID-19 executive directives have now been rescinded. Students and employees should follow guidance, policies and regulations from other governmental agencies such as the California Department of Public Health, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and Cal/OSHA.
COVID-19 case reporting, investigation and exposure notifications
Students
Effective June 17, students are no longer required to report COVID-19 cases to the campus, and UCI will discontinue student case investigations, close-contact notifications and isolation housing support. Students who have COVID-19 will self-manage their symptoms similar to how they manage other illnesses and follow Centers for Disease Control and Prevention guidance for isolation. Students who are also UCI employees should follow the instructions below for employee case reporting.
Employees
Employees, including student employees, are encouraged to report their COVID-19 cases to CTVNS either by following instructions online, emailing contacttracing@uci.edu, or calling 949-824-2300. Employees should follow instructions for isolation and clearance to return to work. Consistent with Cal/OSHA COVID-19 Prevention Non-Emergency Regulations and related statutes, when an employee reports a COVID-19 case to campus, Contact Tracing and Vaccine Navigation Services will conduct a case investigation, notify employee close contacts and post exposure locations daily on the COVID-19 dashboard webpage.
Masks
The California Department of Public Health recommends that you consider masking if:
Although face coverings are no longer required on campus (healthcare settings have different requirements), they remain available and free to students, faculty and staff at various locations on campus.
COVID-19 antigen tests
Free, at-home COVID-19 antigen tests also remain available at various locations on campus. UCI students and employees are encouraged to test frequently using at-home tests. Consider testing 24 to 48 hours before travel or attending an event, and three to five days after travel or an event, as well as after a known exposure or if you have symptoms.
UCOP COVID-19 Vaccine Policy
As you saw in my May 18 message, UCOP has amended its COVID-19 Vaccine Policy:
UCI Forward
On June 30, UCI’s COVID-19 information hub, UCI Forward, will sunset. All employee related information will migrate to the Human Resources Working Well webpage and student-related information will migrate to the Student Health Center webpage. UCI Digest issues will be archived on the Strategic Communications website.
Throughout your visit to campus please be sure to always follow campus guidelines. Please note that guidelines may be updated at any time. Updated campus policies can be found HERE.
Irvine Barclay Theatre no longer requires proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test to attend events in the venue. Additionally, per California state guidelines, wearing of masks in the theater is now optional.
For those who remain concerned about COVID-19, or have underlying medical conditions, we encourage your personal choice to continue wearing masks when attending events in the Barclay.
If you feel unwell, please stay home and contact our friendly ticket office staff who will assist you with a refund or ticket exchange for a future event.
General COVID-19 guidance

As you saw in my May 18 message, UCOP has amended its COVID-19 Vaccine Policy:
- The University will require students and employees to either receive or affirmatively decline a COVID-19 vaccination each year.
- Students and employees will no longer be required to submit documentation of receiving a COVID-19 primary vaccine series. This also means that there will be no reason for students and employees to submit and receive an approved medical or religious exception or a disability deferral to be on campus.
- Watch for campus communications later this year on how to attest or decline the COVID-19 vaccine.
- While UCI will only assess COVID-19 vaccine policy compliance on an annual basis, we recommend all in the UCI community stay up to date with most current Centers for Disease Control and Prevention COVID-19 Vaccination Recommendations.

Where do I park?
Parking for Black Grad on the UCI campus will be complimentary. In order to receive complimentary parking, please use the Park by Plate link specific for the Black Graduation on 6/5/24. Here is the Park by Plate link to share with your guests: coming soon.
Guests may park in unmarked and AR reserved stalls in the Student Center Parking Structure, at the corner of Campus and West Peltason, and is right next to the theater. Please have your guests register in advance to help with the inbound traffic for the event since Thursday, June 8th is a regular school day with students, faculty and staff parking on campus as well. This will help avoid citations since people could be asked to park in alternate lots if the student Center Parking Structure if full and would help us gauge the demand for parking before the event date.
Traffic will be heavy so plan to arrive an hour or more before the ceremony. Guest & Event Services will direct traffic to the nearest parking area(s).
We do not recommend parking in the shopping center across from the theater, as spaces are limited, and non-customer vehicles are subject to towing.
Do I need to reserve a disabled/elderly parking spot?
Yes, all guests need to pre-register for parking before the event but should also inform the parking attendant upon arrival at the parking structure of any assistance needed. Guests should not contact UCI Parking & Transportation to request a disabled parking space.
Graduation-Related Traffic and Parking Impacts
Coming soon
Traffic directors will be on-site to facilitate traffic flow. As delays and intermittent road closures may occur, please anticipate additional travel time and consider taking alternate routes via Michael Drake Drive and East Peltason Drive to access campus destinations. View the map of the affected area and event times for more details.
Please continue to utilize the TDS Website for more information about these impacts. If you have any questions, please contact [email protected]. Thank you for your patience and support for these events.

Is smoking permitted?
No. UC Irvine is proud to be a smoke-free campus. Additionally, marijuana, vape pens and e-cigs are not permitted.
With the passing of Proposition 64, which legalized marijuana use in the State of California, there may be confusion about what is allowed on UCI's campus. While the new law allows for the purchase and recreational use of marijuana, UCI abides by the policies of the University of California, as well as federal law. The applicable policy, viewed here, clearly states that the use, possession and sale of marijuana, in all forms, is prohibited on campus property, including all university-owned and leased buildings, housing and parking lots.

Graduation announcements, thank you notes and a variety of paper goods can be ordered from CB Graduation Announcements, 800.433.0296.
An invitation invites people to come to Commencement and is usually given to those who have made the greatest investment in a graduate's education.
