I want to formally introduce myself, my name is Niobe Duke and I am the advisor for the Black Graduation Celebration! I am very excited to be Chair of this ceremony and would love it if you could attend the ceremony as a “Village Elder”. We all know the famous saying, “it takes a village to raise a child”, and this could not be more true. Our amazing soon-to-be Black graduates are excited to be participating in this year's ceremony and it would be an honor to have you there in attendance to wish them well and show your support! We also want to thank you for the things you contribute to the Black community here on campus.
Ceremony Title: 30th Annual Black Graduation Celebration
Location: Irvine Barclay Theater | 4242 Campus Dr, Irvine, CA 92612
Time: June 5, 2024 at 6:30pm (Doors will open at 6:00pm, I would need you all to be in attendance by 5:00pm, 5:30pm at the latest).
What does being a Village Elder mean?
This is by invitation only via email! You will be walking at the beginning of the ceremony and sitting on the stage and introduced during the ceremony. When it is time to present the graduates, some of you will stand up on stage and shake their hands as they walk across.
NOTE: Please wear your regalia. Graduation regalia includes the cap and gown, as well as other distinguishing hoods, stoles and cords that denote traditions of academic achievement. Only those who have achieved an academic honor or are members of an academic honors society are entitled to wear the special regalia.
For those who do not have regalia, please wear all black with accents of either gold or silver. Wearing regalia isn't required to attend, but if you have it wear it and if you don't, don't worry. DO NOT GO OUT AND BUY/RENT ANYTHING!
Since you are a village elder, you do not need to reserve a ticket since you will be sitting on stage. For those who do not receive an e-invite, you will need to reserve a ticket once the link becomes available.
If you do not receive an email invitation, you will need to reserve a ticket once the link becomes available.
If for any reason there is a statement you do not understand or have questions, comments, and/or concerns, please contact Adisa Ajamu at [email protected] or 949.824.7196.
